‘E’ Team Match Report

The ‘E’ ( for elderly ? ) team duly met the young kids on the block in the match against the ‘D’ team led by Paul Lunan at Southport on Tuesday 25th. Sept.

In a very enjoyable match the old timers were dispatched by 7 sets to 3 but, in contrast to the first match last week some sets went to 5 games and a number of games were closely fought.

In the clash of the Titans, Alan Walton & Paul had a very cagey and entertaining battle with Alan gaining a valuable point. Alan also contributed another singles and Charles & Bert White won their doubles games (probably because it was after their opponents’ bedtimes !)

  1. Alan says:

Well done to both teams! On the face of it, this might be seen as a victory of youth over experience.

But this isn’t really the case. The “young kids on the block” practice about 4 or 5 times a week, so they probably have MORE experience than most of the ‘E’ team players. ‘E’ team member Alan Walton is the notable exception, having played for many years in the Liverpool Leagues for Bath Street and National Giro.

So experience does count after all. And that’s something that both teams will gain by playing competitive table tennis this year.
