Cheer up lads, you won!

Four members of the ‘F’ team squad triumphed on Tuesday evening, beating Formby TTC ‘C’ to win the Gunson Plate handicap competition.

Bob Hale, Nick Hale, Dai Davies and John Davies (no relation) could look a wee bit more cheerful, after a fine win against the 1st division side!

Benefiting from a 300 point handicap, Southport needed to take on average 3½ points per set to avoid defeat. They got off to a great start, with Dai taking 28 points from the Formby number 2, Graham Turner, and John taking 28 off the number 1, John Langton, putting Formby well behind the required rate. Nick and Bob scored 23 and 24 against Craig Lowe to consolidate the position, and after this Formby just couldn’t catch up.

In earlier rounds, Kiko el Hadidy, Steve Horn and Pat Boylett also played their parts along the way.

This is a handicap competition, and the numbers after the team names show the advantage over the opponents. Each match consists of eight singles events, each of 5 games up to 11 points. At the end of the match, points for each team will be totalled and the handicap adjustment added to each team. The team with the greatest number of points after the adjustment will be the winner.
