New kids? Yes, we’re talking about the Southport ‘E’ team, which played its first game in the 3rd Division against Deyes High on Tuesday 18th September. With an average age in the XX’s, and not to be confused with the other new kids (the Southport ‘D’ team squad has an average age, excluding captain Paul Lunan, of 12½), this ‘E’ team makes up in years what it lacks in mobility and visual acuity!
Although narrowly defeated, the ‘E’ team acquitted itself admirably against a clever, youthful and spirited side. Alan Walton won all his sets, ably supported by Tom Bunner in the doubles, and Bert White recorded an excellent singles win.
Looking forward to taking on the other kids on the block next week!
